Local Honey Harvest Wraps Up As Global Declining Bee Population Continues: 21 Alive

Alex Cornwell 21 Alive Fort WayneThis time of year is a sweet one for area bee keepers. The honey harvest is just about wrapping up.

This harvest season comes at a time when the global decline in the bee population continues.

Experts said the decline in the bee population in Northeast Indiana isn’t as bad as other parts of the country but now is the time to make sure the pollinators will be around for the future.

This year is the Southwest Honey Company’s first harvest. The organization officially opened at the beginning of the year to raise awareness on the importance of the bee population.

The organization’s co-founder Alex Cornwell said he was pleasantly surprised at this year’s harvest.
