Locally Made Monday – Southwest Honey Co.: WFFT FOX

cornwell wfftThe Southwest Honey Co. isn’t just a sweet addition to the region’s business community. Their buzz is all about education and conservation of honeybees, and how they contribute to local farms and foods.

WFFT’s Andrew Logsdon shows us in this week’s Locally Made Monday. These little guys could be one of the most important parts of food grown locally in northeast Indiana.

“From the start, from when the food hits our plate, and when we’re in the grocery store, and making that connection is really important,” says Megan Ryan. That’s why Ryan and Alex Cornwell founded Southwest Honey Co. “Southwest Honey Co. started at the beginning of this year, and we started as a conservation effort here in Fort Wayne. And we run education programs. We produce local honey and we work to spread awareness and concern for the honeybee population in our community,” Ryan says.

“And that just spawned a larger amount of information that we looked at and said, there is a real cause for concern here, and that’s a real mission that we feel needs to be fulfilled,” Cornwell says.
