(Published June 28, 2016)This summer, Southwest Honey Co. of Fort Wayne is hosting “Bees and Brew,” an event for nature lovers and do-it-yourself crafters — not to mention those who love to eat and drink. Each Bees & Brew is a hands-on experience, designed to engage participants and connect them with their environment through an understanding of the importance of honey bees. Participants will be treated to honey wine or honey beer and a sampling of local honey-based hors d’oeuvres while listening to a presentation about honey bees and how they help us. They also can sample raw honey, make DIY beeswax candles (to take home) and, for the adventurous, take a tour of the apiary and a look into active beehives. Megan Ryan, who has her master’s degree in education, hosts Bees & Brew, which occurs on select dates throughout the summer and fall.
